Membership in Vermont Psychoanalytic Study Group

Membership in VPSG offers opportunities for collegial engagement and ongoing professional development.  VPSG is a member of the International Psychoanalytic  Association (IPA).

We offer six categories of membership:
  1. Full Member
  2. Candidate
  3. Student (members currently enrolled in OYPSS)
  4. Corresponding
  5. Emeritus
  6. Honorary

Full Members are psychoanalysts who have graduated from IPA approved institutes and who have been elected to VPSG by a vote of the Full Members. These members may serve on committees, teach in our educational programs, and participate in the governance of the organization. Members also enjoy the benefits of access to the Pep-Web database (Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing) and attending or being able to present original papers at VPSG Scientific Meetings. VPSG Full Members also benefit as members in the Confederation of Independent Psychoanalytic Societies (CIPS) and North American Psychoanalytic Confederation (NAPsaC).
  • Annual dues are required for Full Members.
  • Graduates of the VPSG training program may be accepted into Full Membership by vote.
  • Psychoanalysts who trained elsewhere and have graduated from IPA-approved institutes may apply for Full Membership.
  • If interested in applying, please contact: Betsy Sprague, VPSG President at ecs4i@comcast.net.

Candidate Members are candidates who are in formal analytic training with VPSG.

Student Members are students enrolled in psychoanalytic-focused classes with VPSG (One Year Psychoanalytic Seminar Series or “OYPSS”). Student Members enjoy discounted fees to VPSG public events and  are given a year’s access to Pep-Web (Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing), a web-based library of publications featuring fifty-nine premier psychoanalytic journals.
  • Annual dues are required for student members.

Corresponding Members
are members who reside at a significant distance from Vermont and have been invited into membership.
  • Annual dues are required.

Emeritus Members are those members who are retired or who are no longer deriving primary income from clinical activities. Emeritus status may also be granted to a member based on financial hardship and/or illness limiting earning capacity.
  • Dues are optional.

Honorary Members are members who have rendered significant service to the field of psychoanalysis and have been invited to be members.
  • Dues are not required.
