WHO WE ARE
The Vermont Psychoanalytic Study Group (VPSG*) is a non-profit corporation founded in 2008 and a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) under the auspices of the International New Groups Committee. Our purpose is to provide education and training opportunities for individuals interested in psychoanalysis in Vermont and adjoining areas.
In 2004, a small group of IPA trained analysts (William Butler, Sharon Dennett, Douglas Dennett, and Mina Levinsky-Wohl) met for several years to apply to the IPA to establish an IPA society in Vermont. We were formally approved by the IPA as a Study Group in January 2009. This approval is a step in the process of becoming an independent IPA Component Society. In 2011, the Vermont Psychoanalytic Study Group was given approval by the IPA to create an IPA-approved training program in psychoanalysis. We began this training program in 2012 and have since graduated 6 candidates to full IPA member status. As a Study Group, we receive oversight from our IPA Sponsoring Committee. We currently offer an annual seminar series focusing on psychoanalytic thought and practice for those clinicians interested in deepening their understanding of psychoanalysis. We welcome all inquiries, including those interested in VPSG membership, psychoanalytic training, and our seminar series. For more about VPSG's history, see history page. *VPSG is a non-profit with 501(c)3 status |
